Sky Ridge has been around since 2011, and since our opening, we’ve aimed to provide the Nantahala Gorge area with the finest in glamorous camping – otherwise known as the now famous “glamping” that’s grown so popular over the last few years.  While other glamping companies are starting to pop up all around us, we believe Sky Ridge remains the original and the best yurt glamping experience on the east coast.  We are a family team, with a staff that has been with us from the beginning, and we are honored to have you glamp with us!

 

But enough about us.  What about glamping?  There are a few things that you might like to know about the glamping experience that might help you decide if it’s really for you…

 

WHAT TIME IS CHECK-IN AND CHECK-OUT?

Sky Ridge is a let-yourself-in place, and you will receive a check-in document in your email with all the specifics of what to do when you get here five days before your stay is to begin so you'll know just what to do when you arrive.  Check-in time is 4pm.  While we can sometimes do better than this, we cannot guarantee it.  Please always check ahead of time if an early check-in can be accommodated.  Check-out is promptly at 10am.  Our staff needs every minute between guests to work through our rigorous sanitation protocols in order to prepare for the next guest.  Your cooperation in this is required and highly appreciated.

CAN I BRING MY DOG?

Pets are always welcome at Sky Ridge!  For a $100 pet fee, you are welcome to bring up to two pets with you when you come glamping.  We'll provide you a large pet bed and throw that your furry friend can use while you're here.  Remember, though, that pets cannot be left unattended while at Sky Ridge and are not allowed in many areas of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, so if that's on your list, you may want to leave your pups at home.  Keep in mind as well that yurts are not soundproof, so if your pet is easily excited by noise, they may not enjoy glamping as much as you do!  Also, please be aware that if we find you have brought a pet without telling us, your account will be charged the $100 fee without question for each pet we find.  Guests are also responsible for any damage to person or property caused by pets while at Sky Ridge Yurts.

WHAT IF I HAVE A SERVICE ANIMAL?

We follow the recommendations of the ADA when it comes to service animals at Sky Ridge.  If you are bringing a service animal, you must let us know prior to arriving at Sky Ridge.  You also need to be prepared to answer questions about the specific task the animal will perform while here.  These questions help us to determine if you have a service animal or a therapy animal.  There is a legal difference according to the ADA, and fees can only be waived for fully certified service animals and not for therapy or emotional support animals.  If you are unsure, just call us to discuss.  Please note that if you do not disclose that your animal is a service animal prior to your stay, any right to that claim will be forfeited and you will be charged the full fee for bringing a pet to Sky Ridge.

WHAT ARE THE YURTS LIKE?

The yurts are incredible, really.  But they’re not a traditional house.  That means that you’ll hear sounds from the outdoors a little more than you would in a regular home.  So, if you’re really bothered by chirping crickets, the occasional distant coyote howl, or a laugh from your neighbor, you might want to consider our Stecoah House or Wayah House modern cabins instead.  You’ll get the same awesome view and the same awesome experience, just in a more predictable – and soundproof - setting.

 

DO THE YURTS STAY WARM AND COOL?

All of our yurts are equipped with central heating and air just like you have at home.  But, our exterior walls aren’t made of bricks and sticks like you have at home.  They stay toasty warm in the winter with no real issues (unless temps drop well below zero) and they stay reasonably cool in the summer, so long as you keep the doors closed as much as you can and you don’t run the overhead fan (it pushes the hot air down).

DO I NEED A FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE?

In short, no.  Our road is very well maintained and cars (yes, even Ferraris!) make it up to the top of the Ridge with no problems.  We would suggest only experienced motorcyclists attempt to ride to the top, as the road is groomed gravel all the way.  In winter months when there is snow or ice on the ground, four-wheel drive is always a nice thing to have.

WHY DO YOU CHARGE A CLEANING FEE?

Fair question.  Everyone charges a cleaning fee.  Most just don't call it that.  They hide it in the cost of the night's stay, or they require more than a single night's stay to make sure they can cover the cost to clean up after guests.  We think you deserve to know exactly what you're paying for, and that's why we charge a flat $75 cleaning fee for each of our guests, no matter how long you stay.  We give that right over to our incredible staff, and in turn, they take the best of care of our property and our guests.  And you never pay more than what it actually costs us to keep our yurts sparkling clean.
